In-Home Safety Evaluations
Each year, one in four elderly Americans experience a fall. According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, an elderly person is treated in the Emergency Department for a fall every 11 seconds, and every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. Falls are the leading cause of all injuries in elderly adults, fatal and nonfatal.
The impact of a fall goes far beyond the physical. Falls can also impact a person’s mental health and well-being. Many older adults experience a fear of falling because it is a painful and often embarrassing experience. Up to 50% of elderly adults who have recently fallen fear another incident, resulting in a loss of confidence. This loss of confidence generally results in self-imposed limitations of activities, which can lead to depression and social isolation.
Serenity Home Health is available to help prevent injuries due to falls within the home.
Serenity Home Safety Evaluations
Serenity in-home safety evaluations help elderly adults and adults with disabilities find ways to improve mobility and increase home and environmental safety.
Our staff evaluates the home to improve safety by eliminating fall risks and identifying any other potential safety hazards, such as fire and health hazards.
The whole home is evaluated for optimal suitability for the patient. Patients and their families are made aware of risks, such as slick floor finishes, poor lighting and slippery rugs. Patient accessibility and mobility throughout the home are also considered and assessed. The goal is to provide the patient with the best change to live independently.
